Lifeflow Lists | Why You Need Them

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in business, it’s that if you do something more than once, you make a template or a workflow for it. I never thought to apply this to my regular life until MONTHS ago when I heard Amanda Hedgepeth talk about making lists for her family. And I thought, “that’s a really good idea!” Eventually I started to recognize all the things I did on a regular daily/weekly/monthly basis and I started to create my own lists.

They were so small and short. Then Amanda released an entire set of INCREDIBLE lists! I got the whole bundle when they were released over the summer, and last month I finally went through them all and made lists that worked specifically for me. It was so so nice to have a guide as I went through these.

What I love about Amanda and the way she’s presented these lists is that her message is to make it your own however it works for you. I don’t use the daily lifeflow list every single day. I use it on the days where I feel like there’s a lot of extra things going on that I don’t want to forget (like call the insurance, remind Steven about this, etc. etc.) because they don’t belong in my planner – it’d get too full and overwhelming!

The lists I’ve created are: daily // weekly // monthly // yearly // overnight packing list (GOLD!) // diaper bag list // deep clean list.

Not sure if this is something you need in your life? Here’s why I think they’re so helpful:

  • We really can’t remember it ALL and do it all well. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve forgotten when the car inspections and registrations are due and end up doing it late. Now, because of my yearly list, they’re all there.
  • Lists of tasks don’t work well in a planner because it gets way too cluttered. I like to keep my planner for some of the weekly/monthly tasks, appointments, business tasks for each day, etc.
  • You don’t have to use them everyday if that’s not for you. I think I might just keep a daily list on my fridge just to kind of peek at throughout the day, because like I said, there’s not always extra things to do. But I am constantly forgetting to empty out Lily’s travel wet bag from her diaper bag, but with this list? I see it and do it!
  • I like the deep clean list, because if I only have a spare ten minutes, I can usually knock something off the cleaning list and my home and health is better because of it.
  • It helps keep Steven and I on the same page, like when I use the overnight packing list. He can hop in at any point and start to help out without any extra explaining from me! So, this is great for teamwork!

Amanda has created such a comprehensive group of lifeflow lists, that I’m pretty sure nothing has been left out! If you’re a list person, these are for you! It may feel a little silly at first, but they eventually become part of the norm and it doesn’t feel strange anymore!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.
