A new adventure!

I’ve started to realize that life is just a series of adventures. At least, that’s how I choose to look at it. Sometimes the adventures are short, and sometimes they’re long. Planned or unplanned, it doesn’t matter, it’s all an adventure to me. I think it’s safe to say that Steven and I love adventures!

My little family of three is about to start our next big adventure!

For years after high school, I felt a little bit like a gypsy or a nomad. I was always moving into the dorms, moving out of the dorms, and back into my parent’s house. When Steven and I got married, we moved into an apartment, moved back to Hudson, and then moved to Portland. Since then we’ve moved three times. I’ve always found that any time I am in the same spot for more than a couple of years I start to feel a little antsy – like it’s time to move again. But once we found our house, I stopped feeling that way. I LOVE putting down roots in a space that’s entirely my own!

So, with that being said, I’m (finally) really excited to share the news that we are MOVING! Not just moving into a new house, but moving to an entirely new state.

Steven accepted a position with the Central Rock Gym in Watertown, MA as their new assistant manager! We’ll be living in the Boston area, though not directly in the city.

When Steven got the offer, we talked about it for a couple of days and when we officially accepted it, I felt immensely more sad than I was expecting to. Mostly because we’ve created a really awesome life here in Portland. Lily has friends, I have friends, and we have our routines. Most of all, we have a home that we absolutely love and adore! But, after a few days and sharing the news with some of our closest friends, I realized that this is going to be such a wonderful opportunity on so many levels. It’ll be great for my business, Steven will be experiencing professional growth that he has been craving, and it’ll get me out of my comfort zone. I’ve been looking into things to do with Lily in that area, and we’ll still be less than an hour from the ocean, so I’m feeling good about the move!

Here are some common questions we’ve been asked:

  • What are we doing with our house? As I’ve said, we LOVE our house, and we don’t want to let it go. We entertained the idea of selling it, but we know that if we come back in the next few years we won’t find a house like this for the same price – ever again. So, we are going to be renting it out!
  • Will I still be doing photography? YES! This is the beauty of owning my own business – I can take it wherever we go! I’m getting really excited about the opportunities that this is going to create for my business. I’ll still be shooting weddings in Maine as well, south of Brunswick! We’re only a little over an hour away from my currently booked weddings in Southern Maine, so it still works out really well!
  • When do we move? We are planning on loading up a UHAUL and heading out at the start of May!

It’s easy for me to think about how good things are right now, and be sad about moving. But this could be a bigger and better thing for us to move on to right now. It’s also going to give us an opportunity to take a family trip before we move, since we were unable to do one last year because Steven switched jobs and couldn’t take time off. Silver linings are appearing everywhere! 🙂

If any of you have any tips on how to make new friends as an adult (especially one that works from home) I’d love to hear it! The introvert in me is worried! haha.

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
