2018 Goals + Progress

I talk about my PowerSheets a lot, and I’m okay with that because they have been such a game changer for me! I used to write a bunch of arbitrary goals for the year without any real thinking or meaning. Since I’ve started to use these in 2017, my goals have changed a lot, and some may see them as simple goals, but they’re helping to shape a life that really fulfills me and helps me give to others!

One way I practice self-care is trips to the ocean!

I wanted to share my goals today for 2018, and talk a little bit about my progress because making them public is another form of keeping me accountable! Steven and I actually worked through the first two goals together as I was setting them up 🙂

  1. Strengthen + deepen my relationship with Steven.

We are doing REALLY well with this! We set a daily, weekly, and monthly goal together that really helps us stay connected as husband and wife! Time like this doesn’t just happen on its own, it has to be carved out and prioritized! My marriage is my number one priority this year, not that it was suffering, but it could definitely be made stronger!

  2. Eradicate debt + build up our savings account.

Time to thrive, not survive! Steven and I talked about this a lot to determine which course of action we wanted to take with eradicating debt. We’re not far off from paying off his credit card (it was a small balance, but it’ll be a relief when it’s gone!), we have a plan in place for mine, AND we are able to consistently save money each month!

  3. Strengthen + cultivate my faith in God and his role in my life.

Things are changing in my heart and soul. I’m attending an incredible church regularly and they have a nursery so Lily gets to play while I’m at the service. I’m reading devotionals and the Bible more than I ever have in my life. This goal is going slowly but surely!

  4. Regular, intentional self-care.

I’ve committed to one night a month outside of the house by myself. Sure, I’m going to hope for more, but I can guarantee ONE night, and that’s something I look forward to! This month it’s for a haircut and it’s going to be so good! I’ve also set weekly + daily goals for self care that are also working out well!

  5. Document our life + adventures and put them on display.

I’m killing it at getting caught up with printing photos and scrapbooking! I’m halfway through 2016 in a matter of days, and 2017 and 2018 are organized and ready to go! I’ve also been MUCH better about bringing my camera with me everywhere! I’ve also started using chatbooks regularly, and I’m sharing more about that later this week!

  6. Read life-giving books.

Did you see my list? One down, and the next one is on my shelf ready to go! I’m so excited about this one!

  7. Eat from our gardens.

I’m still trying to figure out what that’s going to look like this year because a tree came down right before it snowed so our backyard is a mess 🙁 But I’m hoping at least for some tomato plants to make salsa and pasta sauce with!

  8. Make our own things.

I’m making bread like crazy 🙂 And I’m working on making a quilt! I’m trying to be realistic with my time, so I’m breaking the quilt down into baby steps spanning six months!

  9. Cultivate relationships with family + friends in a way that provides encouragement and inspiration to them!

One of the biggest changes this goal has made in my life is that I now skype weekly with my mom and dad, and we talk more than ever now!

  10. Create  a life giving home.

I’m still working on how this is going to look, but I’ve started with creating systems that relieve me of stress and give me time back! It’s so nice!

Well, there you have it – my 10 goals for the year, for right now. I imagine some of these will change and evolve over the course of the year, but each and every one of these goals makes me SO happy to be working toward! What are some of your goals for 2018?

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
