What I Wish I Knew Then

I think as 17 year olds, we all (no matter how much of a “good” kid we are) think we have the answers. That we can plan our futures and that’s exactly how it’s going to pan out. If I could go back in time and talk to my 17 year old self, there’s a few things I’d tell her.

Dear 17-year-old Linda;

  • Failing your driver’s test is okay, because the second time you take it you’ll be 18 and won’t have to wait the six months for people to ride in your car!
  • College is going to be one of the best experiences of your life, and you’re going to meet your best friends there.
  • I know you’re not interested in boys right now (school and reading are way more fun, right?!) but you’re going to meet some terrible guys in college. Don’t lose too much hope. Eventually you’ll be surprised and meet the person you’re meant to be with.
  • You’ll fight to have children, but it’s going to be SO worth it in the end.
  • Know that little kodak camera you play with? Just wait – fun times are ahead of you!
  • Don’t accept all the extra student loan money. You’ll regret that one.
  • You’re going to work roughly 80 hours a week while in college, but it won’t be like that forever.
  • You’re going to figure out that being introverted is one of your strengths, and you’ll totally own it.
  • By the time you’re 27, you’re going to have done a LOT of self reflecting, and you’ll know yourself and your body really well, and that is an entirely different space than you’re in now.

But most of all, the biggest thing I want you to know is that absolutely nothing is going to turn out the way you thought it would. It’s even better 😉

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
